Understanding

Girl! You didn't turn out any different from me.

I ran away before emotions took hold,

Many a time, and more than I can count...

I knew I wouldn't hold their attention,

Be the one they wish me to be,

And it was easy to take to the road,

Very close, yet so far...

None could understand,

Yet they knew,

They could always count me in,

And reach out in need,

Had the trust that I would be there,

To share the pain if not the joy...

It is hard for me to not be there for a friend,

Yet it was so easy for you to do,

I understand you have your own reasons,

But then, it was a sacred call unanswered...

Was I not your friend, 

or does it not mean the same to us,

I wouldn't know.

Abandoning is unforgivable,

And yet, here I am.

I won't do that, 

And can't repeat the same mistake.

Your joy is mine,

As is your sorrow.

I'll take to the road again,

Hoping you found something you want,

And wouldn't hesitate but call,

When you need me, knowing I would be there.

That is the friend I am,

And the friends we are!
